Songs: Ohia – The Lioness” (Live in Toronto / June 9th, 2000)
The idea of Static + Distance is that it’s something I share with friends and acquaintances across the world. However, the name itself comes from a song by Jason Molina (as Magnolia Electric Co.) called “Farewell Transmission.” I’ll probably write about that song some other time, but needless to say, it’s nothing short of genius. The late Jason Molina was one of the finest songwriters that ever took to performing or recording their music. His way with words is truly something that never ceases to amaze me. He had a talent for wrenching your heart and bringing to light feelings that most people left in the dark. This is saying nothing of his skill as a performer. The man left audiences breathless, as evidenced by this performance from 2000 in Toronto. I don’t want to throw out too much pretext, so I’ll let the video speak for itself.
