NEWS: Aphex Twin Blimp Spotted Over London
I know I said I wasn’t going to post today and I really should be down at MFNW right now, but I’ll get there eventually and I think this is pretty exciting news for those into electronic music. A blimp with 2014 (with the “o” replaced with the Aphex Twin logo) has been spotted flying over London and as Pitchfork reports, the logo was also spotted outside New York’s Radio City Music Hall. What this means isn’t clear, but Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) is no stranger to mysterious promotion, so it’s quite possible this is an indicator that we’ll be seeing some new music from him this year. During an interview back in 2010, James had commented that he had 6 albums completed, so maybe we’re about to hear one of them? An album that was previously only in the hands of a select few was put out thanks to a Kickstarter earlier this year under his alias Caustic Window. Alright, I’m off to see Future Islands, Run the Jewels and Phantogram (maybe Man Man if I make it down there in time?) and a ton more tomorrow. I’ll be posting photos through my Instagram/the Static + Distance Twitter feed, so don’t be a ding-a-ling… follow along! Er, I’ll have some far better photos come early next week if you’d rather not.
