TRACK: Neil Young - "Like A Hurricane"

TRACK: Neil Young – “Like A Hurricane”

Neil Young has many songs that if you listened to them, ignored the fact that he’s made a career out of redefining himself and putting out monumental tracks, might seem like the pinnacle of Neil Young. This is one of them. When I first heard American Stars ‘n Bars I was blown away (Haha, get it? He says that in this song!). It’s still my favorite Neil album years later which shouldn’t be entirely surprising. If you took 10 Neil friends and polled them for their favorite album you’d probably get 10 different answers. American Stars n Bars runs the gamut from sad bastard folk on “Hey Babe” to the country honk of “Homegrown” and then to “Like A Hurricane” which is something else entirely. The 8+ minute epic kicks off with Neil shredding on guitar which after the haunting “Will To Love” might seem be startling. I don’t want to ramble on too much about this song because every minute spent reading this is another you’re not listening to “Like A Hurricane.”
